Description

The Department of Foreign Relations at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Tbilisi, Georgia) is pleased to announce its 6th International Staff Week (6th ISW), which will be held face-to-face from the 9th to the 13th of October, 2023.

The overarching theme of the event will be “Being at home in Europe”. We would like to explore the Europeanness of Georgia and its people from the perspective of university/scholarly traditions. In our exploration, we shall try to cover the topics like role universities play in shaping society, the challenges and opportunities the universities face in our part of the world, the trends in internationalization at home, etc. At the same time, we shall invite the participants to share with us the practices of internationalization they believe works best in their context and thus deliberate upon diverse strategies related to the dynamic process of internationalization.

Who is it for?

The 6th ISW is designed mainly for administrative staff from our partner/non-partner universities around the globe working both at central and faculty/departmental levels, governance offices and officers (including deans and deputy deans), or representatives of units who are in charge of internationalization.

The event is also open to academic staff. The program will be divided into separate tracks and teaching activities will be organized for those who decide to attend the event through STA mobility opportunities available between TSU and our partner universities. Please consult with your International Relations and/or ERASMUS offices about the availability of such a grant.

Participants of both types (STT and STA) are expected to actively engage in discussions, share experiences, and possibly be open to new cooperation bonds.

Programme

A packed schedule of face-to-face activities will offer participants a wide variety of presentations, discussions, and insights on TSU’s strategic development. 5 days of great experience is guaranteed including the topics of internationalization and quality assurance. The agenda is planned in a way to allow space for teaching activities for the academic staff members attending the event.

The participants will indulge in Georgian culture and gastronomy as part of the social program, which among other things will include an unforgettable visit to the Kakheti region considered the motherland of the long-lasting tradition of winemaking in Georgia.

A detailed programme of the 6th ISW will be provided to the selected participants.

Funding

As a non-EU university, we do not receive any financial support through ERASMUS+ or any other source to provide funding for the participants. Therefore, those interested and eligible should cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and some of the meals. Where applicable, the funding might be available from the Erasmus+ K107 or K171/131 grants distributed by the home university. We invite candidates to check the availability of such funding with their home institution prior to submitting their application. Please note that the Erasmus+ programme requires the home and host universities to have signed an Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA) before the grant can be obtained. Please consult with your International Relations and/or ERASMUS offices in order to check the availability of IIA (and a staff mobility grant thereafter) between your home institution and TSU.
