Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for Educators

This five-day professional development course is designed for content and language teachers working in bilingual programmes or multilingual educational settings who wish to deepen both their practical and theoretical understanding of CLIL through innovative and evidence-based methodologies.

The course focuses on the key competencies of CLIL and demonstrates, in a highly practical way, how the 4 Cs of CLIL — Cognition, Communication, Content, and Culture/Community — can be effectively integrated into the classroom.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand and apply the key principles of CLIL in a highly practical way.

Design effective CLIL lesson plans with appropriate activities.

Critically analyse and adapt teaching materials for classroom use.

Explore and implement effective assessment practices in CLIL contexts.

Understand the importance of using appropriate language (by both teachers and students) to achieve educational objectives.

Access new ideas and practical activities for developing key competencies.

Develop strategies to put theory into practice and foster collaboration between language and content teachers.

Who Is This Course For?

This bespoke and practice-oriented course is aimed at both subject/content teachers and English language teachers. It encourages participants to reflect on their own learning processes as well as those of their students.

The course is particularly suitable for:

Educators who feel they or their students may be struggling, lacking motivation, or facing barriers to achieving learning goals

Teachers seeking new resources, methodologies, and initiatives to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes

Additional Benefits of CLIL Training

CLIL promotes:

Critical thinking

Creativity

Empathy and effective communication

These competencies support meaningful learning and help create inclusive and motivating classroom environments.

Participants will also be supported in the design, development, and implementation of a CLIL project, using the CLIL Toolkit and additional resources to apply the strategies acquired during the course.

Practical Information

Minimum language level required: Upper-intermediate (B2 – Common European Framework of Reference)

Certification: Certificates of completion are awarded at the end of the course

Before the course begins, participants will be invited to complete a Needs Analysis, enabling the training centre to tailor the programme to the specific interests and professional needs of the group. On course completion, certificates of attendance are awarded.
