The EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) for Higher Education Lecturers course is designed to assist educators who work in tertiary level education and deliver their subject in English. The course will provide an overview of EMI and explore some of the concepts surrounding its main principles. You will participate in and analyse a demonstration lesson before implementing these principles into some of your own materials. You will work on some lesson materials personalized to your own teaching context which will be presented at the end of the week.

Who is it for?

Academic, lecturers and post-doctoral researchers working in Higher Education who are required to teach their subjects through the medium of English.

Course Content:

  • Explore key considerations when delivering your subject in English
  • Analyse an example of these principles in practice
  • Experiment with how to implement these concepts into your own teaching practice
  • Peer and tutor feedback on materials created

 

Minimum Level of English: B2 on the CEFR (Upper-Intermediate)

Social Programme:

The week-long programme includes a professional walking tour of Galway’s Medieval centre, a cultural outing, networking lunch and heritage trip, all integrated with course objectives. Day trips are available to local areas of scenic or historical interest such as the Aran Islands or the Cliffs of Moher.
