Englsih for Academic Purposes (EAP) will be the focus of this TTP Acdemic Writing and Presentation Skills programme. It is specially designed to be practical, engaging and based on excellent teaching practices. You’ll leave more confident and prepared to take on the toughest teaching challenges.

If you’re looking to grow as an English teacher and develop specific skills so you can prepare your students for language exams and higher education, this course could be perfect for you.

Studying here in Galway, one of the friendliest and most beautiful cities in the whole of Ireland, you’ll focus on learning and practising the best methods and approaches for improving students’ academic writing and speaking abilities.

Learning objectives

The course has been carefully designed to help you achieve the following objectives:

Improve your English language skills and work on your personal language goals.

Build the confidence and skills you need to help your students become more able public speakers, including: confidence-building exercises, assessment tools, and methods for correcting in the classroom.

Focus on developing skills for teaching writing, especially the skills students most need for academic writing, including: avoiding plagiarism, planning and outlining, and using appropriate connectors and cohesive devices.

Gain an understanding of how to best adapt and exploit materials intended to teach English for academic purposes.

Social Programme

GCI offers a weekly activity social programme with many options to choose from. The activity programme is designed monthly, and some highlights may include cultural events across the city and county, practical workshops on various themes and topics from grammar clinics to CV preparation and Irish culture, volunteer opportunities or weekend trips to famous landscapes across Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way.
