Introduction to the Portuguese Language and Culture

Aims of the course:

• Introduce participants to the Portuguese language and culture;
• Develop Portuguese language communication skills at level A1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Course programme:

1. The written alphabet; Portuguese phonetics;

2. Topics: personal identification; meeting other people; daily life activities; family and housing; Portuguese culture;

3. Grammatical structures: affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences; adjective-noun concordance; determiners;

pronouns; feminine and plural nouns (general rules); present tense of regular and irregular verbs.
