Dear Colleagues,
We warmly welcome you to in the Jagiellonian University Erasmus+ Staff Training Week „Management of Academic Heritage – Challenges and Opportunities”, to be held at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków on 6-10 April 2020.
As the topic for the first time is dedicated to the university special collections and academic heritage, the event is organized by the JU International Relations Office together with the Jagiellonian University Museum in cooperation with multiple university units working in the field of managing academic special collections, mainly Centre for Science Education, the Museum of Pharmacy of the JU Medical College, the Museum of the JU Medical Faculty.
The city of Krakow with over 20 universities and students population reaching 200 000 (including international students) deserves to be called a European academic city. Furthemore, most of the Krakow academic institutions hold precious special collections and in various degrees implement special policies regarding protection of their heritage. Therefore, the wide representation of units as well as outside organisations invited to participate in the event was aimed at reflecting complexity of issues related to the problematics of academic heritage and its role for contemporary universities.
The programme includes study visits hosted by our partners highlighting different aspects related to the management of academic heritage. There will be presentations of different University units responsible for academic special collections, each dealing with the problem from slightly different angle. We would like discuss issues such as the questions of sensitive collections – their preservation and accessibilty, intangible heritage and issues related to its documentation and protection, using special collections as educational resources serving both the academic and local communities, possibilities of integrating the university heritage within the wider context of the city’s cultural heritage.
The working language is English.
