Which library for the European student? Role of academic libraries and range of services in European University Alliances.

This programme is open to all kinds of library staff involved or in the process of being involved in a European university.

European university alliances need the support of libraries to achieve their goals of excellence and inclusion, to facilitate the success of their students, towards more open, democratic, fair and sustainable societies.

Libraries are key actors in the process of rethinking and renewing education and research among each alliance. They need to take transnational cooperation to a new level of intensity and scope and to develop a genuinely European dimension in the way they address their patrons, built on shared values.

This programme seeks at building on the first initiatives and experiences learned from the European Universities Alliances and also at reflecting on the role and range of services of libraries as lighthouses in alliances. It will provide an opportunity to share a collective understanding of the alliances’ flagship objectives.

It will also be dedicated to a better knowledge of the European students as citizens, and the way libraries can meet their needs in terms of information resources, services and skills in a globalized world where information is massively available without filter. Finally, participants will reflect on the construction of library networks and the modalities of cooperation and intercultural learning.

We would like to draw attention to the interactive and participatory approach of this programme, in which each participant is invited to present a practice, a feedback or an issue if he or she wishes.
