Mind Meets Machine: AI and the Future of Student Mental Health

Erasmus+ Staff Week 2025:

Hosted by RSU, Riga, Latvia

In a world where artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly intertwined with education and mental health, Erasmus+ Staff Week at RSU explores how AI-driven solutions can enhance student well-being while addressing ethical challenges. Over three days, university professionals, AI experts, and mental health advocates will discuss the role of AI in predictive analytics, personalized learning, and data privacy.

Day 1: AI-Driven Mental Health Support – What’s Here, What’s Next?

The opening day focuses on AI-powered tools designed to identify, prevent, and address student mental health challenges. Experts will share insights on predictive analytics for burnout detection, the real needs of students in mental health solutions, and the evolving role of AI beyond chatbots. A hands-on brainstorming session will encourage participants to explore the opportunities and risks of well-being technologies. The day will conclude with a welcome reception at the RSU Anatomy Museum, fostering networking in a unique academic setting.

Day 2: The AI Tutor & Mental Well-Being – Friend or Foe?

This day dives into the connection between AI-driven learning and student stress levels. Can AI alleviate academic pressure, or does it introduce new challenges? Sessions will address AI’s impact on neurodiverse students, stress-free learning environments, and the role of AI tutors. A debate on AI vs. human counselors will spark critical discussion, followed by an interactive session on balancing AI tools with meaningful human connection. The day ends with a mindfulness movement activity, promoting well-being through physical and mental balance.

Day 3: Big Data & Student Well-Being – A Double-Edged Sword?

The final day tackles one of the most pressing issues in AI and mental health—data privacy and ethics. Who controls student mental health data? How can universities ensure ethical AI implementation? Discussions will explore student expectations from AI-powered mental health support and guidelines for responsible AI use. The event will conclude with closing remarks and final networking opportunities.
