Are you a professional working in career services, university libraries, research support, welcome services or international affairs?

Then we are happy to invite you to participate in Freie Universität Berlin’s 11th International Staff Training Week 2023, which will take place for five full days from June 26 to June 30, 2023.

Five different units of Freie Universität Berlin’s central university administration, the Career Service, the Welcome Service for staff, the University Library, the Research Support Office as well as the Office of International Affairs have created a total of six interactive programs to engage with colleagues from all over the world during the week. The programs will allow enough time for sharing expertise, developing competences and peer learning as well as for networking, strengthening partnerships and socially interacting with colleagues from all four track.

Research Support Program

Providing an individual consultation on national and international research funding opportunities implies not only the expertise in funding formats and their specifics, but also requires an assessment, whether the chosen funding scheme is the right format for the current career stage of individual researchers. The discussions about strategic career planning, especially with postdocs, often accompany such individual consultations. In the track “Research Support: Diverse and Open Career Paths for Postdocs in Academia and beyond” we will have a closer look at typical career paths in academia after PhD and discuss if they can be systematically planned in advance. What alternatives to the jobs in academia are there and what specific support do freshly graduated PhDs and international postdocs need? We plan to discuss current developments and initiatives in the field of general research assessment on EU and national level as well as obstacles and enablers of a scientific career and how can we consider them in our practices.
