English as a Medium of Instruction for Higher Education Teachers

EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) for Higher Education Lecturers is designed to assist educators who work in tertiary level education and deliver their subject in English. The course will provide an overview of EMI and explore some of the concepts surrounding its main principles. You will participate in and analyze a demonstration lesson before implementing these principles into some of your own materials. You will work on some lesson materials personalized to your own teaching context which will be presented at the end of the week.

Who is it for?

Academic, lecturers and post-doctoral researchers working in Higher Education who are required to teach their subjects through the medium of English.

Course Content:

Explore key considerations when delivering your subject in English

Analyse an example of these principles in practice

Experiment with how to implement these concepts into your own teaching practice

Peer and tutor feedback on materials created

Minimum English Level

B2 on the CEFR

Delivery: in person at our Galway school. One to one Online courses also available on request.

Social Programme:

Full-day tour to destination on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way such as  Connemara or the Cliffs of Moher. Afternoon activities including walking tour of Galway, language and culture workshops and social networking event. 

Accommodation Options: participants can book their own accommodation or apply for Atlantic accommodation – student apartments or host family. Accommodation prices available on request.
